Saturday 21st March 2020 - 10:30 to 12:30 This was one of the first sunny days for some time. There were signs of spring all around us: daffodils; primroses; wood anemonies; violets; cowslips; celandines and the bursting buds on the horse chestnut trees; hawthorn; willow and alder. The pair of Egyptian Geese still have their 3 goslings which have grown significantly. The Great Crested Grebes have built another nest and hopefully will lay eggs. We did not see the pair of Mallard Ducks which had a large brood a few days ago. There were no gulls - although we saw some in Grattons Park later. There was a Chiffchaff catching midges in the sunshine. On a detour around Grattons Park we saw additional birds: two Buzzards; a Grey Heron; a handsome male Bullfinch; Goldfinch; Great Tit and a pair of Long-tailed Tits carrying nesting material into a bank of brambles. A full list of birds seen is given in the Bird Table .
