RSPB Big Garden Birdwatch
It was a clear sunny morning with a beautiful dawn and a nearly full moon. We
counted birds for the RSPB survey using their rules. In particular, we only counted
the maximum number of any species that we saw at one time.
Counting the swirling flocks of
Black-headed Gulls
and the argumentative
Canada
Geese
was a challenge.
The two adult
Egyptian Geese
were noisily protecting their group of 6 goslings (one
has been lost).
The two
Great Crested Grebes
were together near the main island.
We saw 24 species in total.
A full list of birds seen is given in the
Bird Table
.
We did our own garden bird count the day before in the continuous rain. We saw 10
species and, of course, the woodpecker only turned up after we had finished.
