Saturday 26-03-2022 - 11:00 to 13:00 A fine, warm sunny day. The flowering magnolias are magnificent and the willow trees are moving into spring. Two more pairs of Egyptian Geese have moved into the park. There was a lot of displaying and bickering as they jostled for territory. Our resident pair still have two goslings and were keeping out of the way of the disturbances. Let's hope that the goslings are now big enough to survive. A Mallard duck was shepherding her new brood of ten very young ducklings around the lake avoiding the swan and the geese. The babies were first reported a few days ago. A Moorhen is sitting on a nest very close to the edge of the lake. We saw a Great Spotted Woodpecker for the first time this year. It was warm enough to bring the terrapins out and three were sunning themselves on logs and on the shore of an island. A full list and count of the birds seen is given in the Bird Table .
