Coot with young, Photo: Tom Howard-Jones 20th May 2023
A warm sunny day with a gentle fresh breeze.
The park is very green and lush - making it difficult to see the small birds.
It is baby time on the lake
.
The
Egyptian Geese
have (another?) brood with about 11 goslings.
There is a crèche of 14 or more
Canada goslings.
The
Mallard ducklings
are nearly as big as their parents.
There are at least 4 young
Coots
.
A pair of
Moorhens
are guarding about 10 very young chicks - probably only a day or
so old.
We heard:
Wren
;
Blackcap
and
Chiffchaff
.
It was warm enough to bring the
Terrapins
out to bask.
Two
Swifts
flew over the meadow as we walked back.
A full list of the birds seen is given in the
Bird Table
.
