The first day of the new year was grey and chilly.
Strangely the most striking observation was the total lack of Canada Geese
throughout our walk. Last year we saw them on every visit. Yesterday the lake had
been frozen; so maybe the Geese had given up.
Two
Great Crested Grebes
were on the lake and two
Cormorants
were in the trees
on the big island.
One
Egyptian Goose
, looking smart, was active competing with the gulls for the
food. Might the other one be nesting already?
It was good to see
Redwings
, a
Long-tailed Tit
,
Greenfinch
and
House Sparrow
.
Wishing you all a happy and healthy new year.
A full list of birds seen is given in the
Bird Table
.
