WORTH PARK FRIENDS
24 bird lists were recorded during 2021. There were 8 birds that were seen on every visit: Coot; Carrion Crow; Mallard; Magpie; Moorhen; Feral and Wood Pigeon and Blue Tit. Egyptian Goose and Jackdaw were seen on every visit except one. Somewhat surprisingly Canada Geese were not seen on 3 visits. It feels like they are always there in numbers. It was sad to realise that we had not seen a Kingfisher all year. Although we had seen one nearby in Grattons Park. Similarly we had seen two Red Kites over the playing fields in Grattons Park but we had not seen them from Worth Park. Both Buzzard and Treecreeper were only seen once. In 2020 a Buzzard was also only seen once while a Treecreeper was not seen at all. The following further birds were also only seen once: Mandarin; Goosander; Lesser Redpoll; Redwing; Swift; Mistle Thrush and Great Spotted Woodpecker. The following new additions were made: Goosander; Mandarin and Swan. The handsome drake Goosander was probably the most exciting and unexpected sighting (found on the last day of the year) - closely followed by the drake Mandarin. It was good to see House Sparrows, Starlings and Robins so often. But disappointing to find Greenfinches, Chaffinches and Song Thrushes so seldom. Tom & Chris Howard-Jones
